At the end of the night, we began to get ready for the Luminaria ceremony to honor survivors and victims. Our plan was to place the bags around the horse show ring and walk a "remembrance" lap in honor of these brave individuals. Well, the rain must have foreseen our plans. Just as we were about to place the bags, there came a down pour. Did it stop us? Nope! We sat the Luminarias on the picnic tables under the pavilion and went right along with the ceremony.
As I walked around looking at all the softly lit bags, I saw the one that I had placed. "In Memory of my aunt: Doris Tucci." My aunt Doris was a strong woman who lost her battle to pancreatic cancer a few years ago. I really don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't think about her. A flower in the yard, a cloud in the sky, a song on the radio - it always triggers a memory of her. She is the reason Stompin' Out Cancer started four years ago and why it continues today.
Way to go girl!! I still find things everyday that make me think of her too. Of course, it's a little easier now to find something, since I work at a place where you can see Camelback Mountain through every window. She hiked that one once a week. Well...keep it up, you're doing good! -- James
