In 2004, my Aunt Doris was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Within a year of receiving her diagnosis, she had disintegrated to the skeleton of a once vibrant and healthy woman. She fought a hard fight, but in the end the horrible killer overcame her.

This year, Cancer struck close to me once more. One of my adult dancers from the Little Switzerland Cloggers was struck by this deadly disease. Jennifer Propst fell victim to Uterine Cancer. She had surgery to remove her uterus and is now undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. With that, the fire in my heart to fight Cancer started burning even hotter.

For the past three years, I have hosted "Stompin' Out Cancer," a Clogging performance that raises money for Highland County's Relay for Life. Since 2007, I, with the help of some great friends, have raised over $500 at each annual 2-hour event. That means the "Stompin' Out Cancer" performances have raised over $1,500 in 6 hours for the Highland County Relay for Life.

This year, I am trying something a little different and I need help from my followers. This year, I'm planning to incorporate an auction into the event. In the past, we have auctioned off cakes. Now, we're collecting donations to auction off - household decor, tools, yard decorations, art, jewelry, vintage items, perfumes & lotions, quilts & afghans, tupperware, collector's items, anything! All the money from the auction will be donated to Highland County's Relay for Life. Below is a picture of last year's Cloggers and Relay walkers having fun with a Square Dance at the Stompin' Out Cancer performance during the Highland County Relay for Life.

The Sundance Studio will be open Monday, May 17 from 4:30-5:30 for donation dropoffs. If you are unable to drop off donations on Monday, please let me know and I will gladly meet you at another time to collect items.

It is SO important to donate to this auction to help raise money for the fight against Cancer. Cancer does not recognize gender, race, religion, or age. Cancer targets the rich or the poor, the lucky and the unlucky. Please consider making a donation whether it be for the auction or a monetary donation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at dorothy@sundancestudio.org.
